Puppies
All puppies are cute, whatever their breed. Most people love to watch
them playing and enjoy the great fun they have when they are around. It
is, however important to remember that even at this young age, it is up
to owners to begin training with their new puppy as soon as possible.
You can have a huge impact on training and building a good relationship
with your puppy while he is young. Your puppy is your responsibility and
you need to help him prepare to cope with day to day living in our
society.
Socialising a puppy is extremely important and you need to be
encouraging him to meet other adults, children and dogs as often as
possible. Socialising isn't just about meeting others, it includes
teaching your puppy how to cope with everyday events, such as car
journeys, traffic noise, bikes, pushchairs and many other challenges
which he will face as he grows up.
At Progress Dog Training, we offer both Courses and Private Appointments
to help you achieve all you want to with your new puppy.
Private Puppy Appointments
It can be a shock when you bring your new puppy home. If you are not
prepared, you may find yourself clearing up lots of 'accidents' and
dealing with jumping and attention seeking behaviour. There may be
play-biting, which isn't much fun for you as your new puppy will have
very little but very sharp teeth! You may find yourself being woken up
in the middle of the night or trying to cope with your puppy chewing
through your furniture every time your back is turned!
New puppies are fantastic to have around, they are cute and fun and
are very effective time wasters! In order to enjoy this stage of their
life, it makes sense to understand and be in control of common puppy
behaviours. Many new owners struggle to know what to do for the best in
many of the above situations and are unsure of the right way to correct
their new puppy without causing distress or risking damaging their
relationship.
All our training methods are kind and effective. We can show you
different methods and ways of achieving the results by simply teaching
your puppy what you are looking for.
These home visits are especially useful for owners who have not
raised a puppy before. They will help you understand your puppy's
behaviour and can reassure you about what is 'normal' to expect at this
stage.
The Areas your appointment will cover are:
Housetraining
Feeding
Play-Biting
Jumping
Chewing
Barking / Attention Seeking
Pack Hierarchy
Learn to Sit and Down
The visit will last for 2 hours and if you have any special areas of
concern, we will of course, help you with those too. Many people find it
beneficial to have a home visit when they bring their new puppy home, to
help settle them into their new environment, and then like to attend a
training course for the practical training sessions.
You will receive a 'puppy pack' containing useful information, food
samples and a toy for your puppy.
The cost for a Puppy appointment is £75.00*
(price may vary depending on location)
Puppy Courses
Puppies attending this course need to be under 6 months old at the
start of the course.
We run 6 week puppy courses and the training we use is reward based,
which means we encourage our puppies by using praise and reward. Our
training is comprehensive and we only take around 8 puppies in each
course. This ensures your puppy can socialise with others of different
breeds and also enables us to give owners the help and support they
need.
Our courses are carefully structured to help you progress with your
training. We make them enjoyable by using different techniques and
training which is fun, all the while remaining educational by helping
you learn how to communicate with your new puppy.
Upon successful completion of the puppy course, you will have the
opportunity to progress through our Level 1, 2 and 3 Award Training
Program which will help make your puppy more reliable with the basics
and introduce further areas of training.
